True Peace

View from the Pews blog http://viewfromthepews.blogspot.com/

has begun a campaign of prayer for world peace.

Now I concur wholeheartedly with the sentiment , and encourage all to join in ; yet I feel they spoil the whole thing by continuing with a list of potential dangers : Iran Syria, Russia, China etc....

Will they ever learn ?

That a prayer for peace requires peace to enter our hearts, our communities, our nations....as well as those of the perceived enemies....

I'm sorry but when we belong to nations participating in armed conflicts throughout the world for less than pure reasons or motives; we cannot merely limit ourselves to praying for peace within the heart of the enemy - all too often we discover too late that our worst enemy was our very self. When we pray for the forgiveness of sins - we acknowledge our sinfulness too ; so when we pray for peace in the hearts of the combatants and possible hostile aggressor or thoughtless possessive politician who cares little for human life - we must also prfor peace within our hearts....
