'Rumours' from Rome

Although I never read the vile rag ; Fr Mildew informs us that [wait for it , have to get my crucifix and Holy water and garlic before I type the name] The Tablet [shudder! Now I really need a shower] and its 'rumour-monger from Rome' ; the screaming diva Bobbie Mickens; is suggesting George Bush may consider becoming a catholic !!!

Stopped laughing yet ?

Well miracles do happen !

And there's more chance of George Bush becoming a catholic than Mr Mickens !!!!

Welcome back!

This rimour has been doing the rounds since a few months after it became more or less clear that Blair was going to embrace Cherie's religion.

Two points: first, there is absolutely no evidence and only rumour, and his daughter's wedding looked like one celebrated by a believing and practicing Methodist family. Second, if he does come over, I bet it's to Rome, and not to Westminster.

Nice to see you back.
Yeah, I have heard this rumour too.
He does seem to have more respect for the Church than some recent 'convert'-but that goes for a lot of people.

A friend of mine is a limousine driver in New York City. At the time of the last Republican convention in 2004, she was assigned to drive the elder Pres. Bush's aides to church one morning. She told me the entire Bush family, including the elder Bush, the current President, Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida (a Catholic convert) and their families all attended Mass at Holy Redeemer, Fr. George Rutler's church, in Manhattan.
Pope Benedict is the only world leader the current Pres. Bush has gone to the airport to meet on arrival.

I think he will convert, but after leaving office.

Well let's hope that he does convert, anytime soon, and that if, after leaving office, he wants to set up a 'Faith Foundation' ,that will be a channel to communicate the One True Faith.

Interesting Speculation...the Bush family has been all over the map as re: religion. The elder Bush was raised Episcopalian, his wife, Barbara Presbyterian...and the kids were..."whatever" Jeb Bush (Fla. governor) had converted quite some time ago (his wife is Catholic), the current president Bush is Methodist (his wife is Methodist), and I'm not sure where the other children in the family fall -- I believe Episcopal. I can't imagine the elder Bushes, in particular, being happy with the state of affairs in the Episcopal Church in the US especially given the ordination of an openly practicing gay man as bishop in New Hampshire.

Overall, GWB has done a fair amount for prolife. His supreme court justice picks were outstanding, which should help the prolife cause for a number of years to come, and he doesn't want government funding of embryonic stem cell research on new lines.
